(57)How we work
Every matter follows the same method, drawn here the way the USPTO would want it drawn: one desk, clear reports, and action only on your written instruction.
The method, step by step
The reference numerals match FIG. 2.
Instructions
Send the application, PCT, or registration number, the deadline, the parties, and what you want done. One email is enough to open the matter.
Conflict check
We check the parties against our records before anything else happens. Please hold back confidential technical detail until this step is done.
Engagement in writing
If there is no conflict, we confirm the engagement and an estimate in writing. If there is a conflict, we tell you promptly and do not act.
File and track
We file at the USPTO and track every response date against the official record.
Report and advise
Each USPTO communication is reported to you with its due date, a plain explanation, and our recommendation.
Act on instruction
We act on your written instruction, confirm when it is done, and report the outcome when the USPTO responds.
What you can expect
- One point of contact
- The registered patent attorney who reads your instructions is the one who signs the filing.
- Reports in English
- Written for a docket: the document, the due date, the issue in plain terms, and a recommendation.
- File history first
- Before we answer any office action, we read the complete file history and every reference the examiner cites.
- Estimates before action
- An estimate for each step before we incur it, so your client approves the cost first.
- Confidentiality
- Unpublished applications and client communications stay confidential, under our professional duties and U.S. law.
- Pacific Time
- Working from Carlsbad, California, with an evening that overlaps the Asian business morning.
Start with step 102.
